Items whose name begin with a period, such as .DS_Store files
Items whose names begin with a period '.' are always invisible in Mac OS X because this is how UNIX designates a file should not be shown to the user. This takes precedence over the Finder's Invisible flag, so changes to that flag will never make one of these items visible. Most items whose names start with a period are system files and should not be renamed.
